Mr. Murdock fought as a Lieutenant with Company A of 1st battalion of the 16th Regiment of the 1st division. He fought fro m North Africa to Sicily to Omaha beach on D-day. He was constantly on the front and earned himself a Silver Star and a Bronze Star. He fought in the Atlas mountains, and when they tried to take Kasserine Pass, he was captured by the Germans and marched to a port on the Mediterranean where he and the other POWs were boarded onto a ship. His ship was targeted by American fighter planes and soon become stuck on a sandbar which gave them an opportunity to escape. He went on fighting in Sicily and landed in the second wave on Omaha Beach.
